Chakras

Some of the information you find in this post was taken from a book that you can download for free here. It's a lot more informative and offers some other unique ways for maintaining your Chakras. It's a brilliant read!

In the original Sanskrit, which is one of the oldest and most sacred languages, Chakra means 'wheel' which likely refers to the circular movement or spinning of each energy centre. This energy centre constantly sends and receives information throughout the body, they are hotspots for energy within the body and therefore affects us in physical ways.

In this post, I'll take you through each of the Chakras and suggest ways in which we can open them and maintain this openness. We want to have these open as the energy flow around your body becomes more balanced, this allows us to benefit within general wellbeing and physical health.

The First Chakra: Earth Star Chakra (Vasundhara)

Associations; Colour- Brown; Goddesses- Gaia, Inanna, Pachamama; Tarot- The Hierophant; Rune-Othala; Gemstones- black kyanite, brookite, petrified wood, red jasper, sardonyx, tektite, Tibetan quartz; Herbs/Oils - black and pink peppercorn, ceremonial tobacco, frankincense resin, Myrrh resin, red clover, white sage; Planet- Pluto.

The Earth Chakra is roughly 30 cm below your feet. This chakra is symbolic of our connection to Mother Earth and our ancestors. It's also connected with faefolk and all of human kind because of this, many view the Earth Chakra as the most important.

Opening the Vasundhara allows you to ground and root our collective energy. This Chakra is related to the Goddess Gaia, the mother of all life on earth and Vasundhara translates to 'daughter of earth'. This makes this energy centre your oldest spiritual home. The Earth Star is also the Lower World of Shamanism, the entry point to a labyrinth of time, rock, and stone that leads to the molten core of our planet.

Ways to open/maintain it:

  • Sit or lay in a natural setting. This can be indoors but if you can physically connect to the earth it will strengthen the link to this chakra. Close your eyes and relax, concentrate on thankfulness to Mother Earth. Next imagine light from the core of the Earth flowing up in through the bottom of your feet and up along your spinal column. Feel and experience white light entering into each of your chakras and uniting them as one. Feel your energy grounding, and going down into the light at the core of the Earth. Visualize the light of the Earth glowing beneath your feet. Allow yourself to experience the healing, and restoring energy of your Earth Star Chakra. "In Sanskrit, the mantra 'Om Mani Padme Hum' is perhaps the most sacred of all mantras, since it is said to contain all of the teachings of Buddha within its frequency. It translates literally to 'I offer praise to the jewel within the lotus' and it reflects the physical grounding and embodiment of the purest notion of compassion. Repeating this mantra in meditation will connect you with the protective, rooting, and anchoring energies of the Earth Star, and will support you in feeling more connected to Gaia, where healing begins." (The Ultimate Guide to Chakras by Athena Perrakis, P.H.D)
  • Affirmations; I am present!; I am grounded on all levels!; I am one with the Earth!; I feel the connection with the Earth and with all people!; My past is healed and my present is healthy!; I am opened and grounded!; I love myself and all the planet!; I am here!

The Second Chakra: The Root Chakra (Muladhar)

Associations;

The root chakra is located at the base of your spine. Muladhar translates to 'root', 'base' or 'foundation' from the original Sanskrit. This Chakra is the centre of stability and is linked to grounding and security. When unaligned you can experience feelings of anxiety, dizzyness and nervousness. If it's overactive, you can often feel like there is a lack of progress in both professional and personal aspects of your life, like relationships have become stagnant.

This Chakra is also a balancing point between above and below,meaning that when its been neglected, it can affect every aspect of your life.
